Can more than one pupil be taught at a time?
Some tutors will oblige if asked but there will always be an additional charge for example a second pupil will be 50% of the original eg pupil 1 = £20, pupil 2 = £10
Can more than one subject be taught?
Yes, however sometimes it is difficult to find teachers who have expertise in more than one or two subject areas. In a one hour session it is preferential to only concentrate on one subject. The following lesson can be a different focus and lessons can be alternate if required.
Where and when do lessons take place?
The majority of lessons usually take place during the evenings and at the weekend as most children and tutors are available at this time. However, the exact time of the tuition is mutually agreed between yourself and the tutor. Tuition normally takes place in the client's home. Again, the venue can be agreed between the client and the tutor.
What happens if I am not happy with one of the tutors?
Try to discuss your concerns with the tutor. If you have any serious concerns regarding any of the tutors, then please contact us straight away.
How do I cancel a lesson?
If possible, always try to give at least 24 hours notice. Please ring the tutor directly to re-arrange another appointment. As our tutors are practicing teachers, there is likely to times that they have to cancel at short notice particularly if tutoring after school. If the tutor cancels a lesson, then he/she must provide alternative arrangements for the next lesson. We prefer an informal yet courteous arrangement on the understanding that both parties experience unforeseen circumstances and if possible will notify asap.
From what age do your tutors take children for tuition?
Our tutors take children normally from Year 1 onwards.
How is the fee for the tuition paid?
It is paid by cheque or cash at the end of each tuition, directly to the tutor.
Do I have to pay introduction fee?
No
Can I negotiate a different tuition fee from the advertised fee?
The fees are agreed before tuition commences and cannot then be negotiated
Are all the tutors fully qualified?
All tutors are qualified to teach. Their teaching qualification has been verified. The client is welcome to ask to see certificates at the initial meeting.
How do I know my child will be safe in a one-to-one situation?
Cheshire Tutors are fully aware of the anxiety a parent and a student may feel under these conditions. All new tutors have to undergo a series of stringent checks, including a full Police check.
What reassurance do I have about the tutors?
Apart from the CRB disclosure, we require all our tutors to provide us with professional and personal references, which we check, and with proof of their qualifications.
How do I know the tutor is up to date with the curriculum?
As our tutors are practicing classroom teachers. They have relevant and recent teaching experience.
Won’t my child be too tired for an hour’s tuition after school?
One-to-one tuition is different from a classroom environment, and can be very stimulating. Of course, it depends on the age of the pupil, but you can arrange tuition times with the tutor so that your child is not too tired to benefit from the lessons.
Will my child get homework?
This is something you should discuss with your tutor. Homework helps to consolidate the lesson and prepare for the next lesson. It also gives an opportunity to find out what the pupil has been doing.
Which room is best for the tutoring to take place?
The tutor will only be willing to work in a place where the parent or carer can walk through and be present to oversee the lesson taking place. A lounge or dining room is ideal.
What should I expect the first lesson?
The tutor needs to introduce himself to the pupil. An assessment will take place to inform future teaching. Future targets will be discussed at the end of the lesson with the parent
Do I book a series of lessons in advance?
